Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Malibu Rising follows the 4 siblings of the Riva family: Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit. Children of the world-famous singer Mick Riva, the 4 siblings have gained notoriety for both their heritage and individual talents. The book takes place in the summer of 1983 and is centered around Nina’s annual beach party, the wildest party of the year where all the biggest stars can be found. But this year is different from any other, after a lifetime of scandal, long-kept secrets will be revealed, confessions will be made, and Kit’s secret guest is sure to make a splash.
Review:
I LOVED this book, though it was filled to the brim with drama it remained heartfelt and had me rooting for the siblings until the end. I’ve read this author before and I really love her storytelling ability and how she can really get you immersed into a novel. Maybe I get too invested in the lives of fictional characters but this book had me screaming with all of the suspense and dramatics. I was also pleased to find out that this book exists in the same universe as another favorite of mine from this author, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and it included some fun easter eggs.
This novel is incredibly quick-paced and was impossible to put down, and as usual with this author the writing was excellent and the story was beautiful. I had expected this novel to be mostly partying and gossip, but it actually delved into some very serious topics and taught me that you really can’t judge a book by its cover. The siblings are all amazing characters and very easy to relate to, which only adds to the reading experience. Overall, I would give this book a 9/10 and would highly recommend it. However, this book does contain mentions of alcoholism and drug use, as well as other mature scenes so keep this in mind before reading :)
Really good review! This book sounds good, and I like that it's fast paced. You did a wonderful job expressing your thoughts on the book and giving a great summary!
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteI love how you give an amazing preview of the story while emphasizing the suspense. Its always funny when authors include easter eggs, I have read a few books with some and I enjoyed them just as much as it sounds like you enjoyed this one. Fast paced books are always hard to put down, and so was this review!
Awesome Job!
Good review! Well-done touches of topics like drug use are always a sign of a good writer. I've heard of this novel previously, and will be sure to check it out!
ReplyDeleteWonderful post! I love the detail you provide in your review, as well as the suspense you left in the summary. I will definitely make sure to read this book as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteAlthough drama books aren't my style, the way you describe it yourself makes me want to take a dip into one of these books. Especially since this is an author that you are quite fond of from other books. I like how the book is drama, but also dives into some more serious topics and has a more serious storyline than others.
